Workshops

About Workshops

  • Workshops can be anywhere from 1 to 3 hours in length, depending on your needs and preferences.

  • Groups of 10 to 30 participants will allow for the best and most interactive experience.

  • In-person workshops provide a much richer experience for everyone, and are strongly recommended.

  • The format of Connection Workshops includes the presentation of carefully curated information and resources, interactive activities, and discussion amongst participants.

  • The descriptions that appear here for each workshop are intended to be a general guide. The specific content for each workshop will be tailored and adapted to the specific needs and context of your workplace, organization, or school.

The Connection Workshops Process

  • An initial consultation, where we will meet to discuss your needs and goals for the workshop.

  • Continuity from start to finish: planning, workshop delivery, and follow-up. Next steps may include:

    • Pre-workshop preparation materials for participants to review and discuss ahead of the workshop.

    • The workshop itself! (In-person)

    • Post-workshop follow-up with participants, an opportunity to discuss lingering questions, outcomes, and new goals for the future. (In-person or virtual)

Mental Health & Wellbeing and Masculinity

  • This workshop is directed at men and boys in particular, but the information is relevant to participants of all genders.

  • Examines gender roles, norms, and expectations, and how they restrict men from being and expressing their full authentic selves.

  • A broader discussion of the consequences of strict gender roles for men, including:

    • Poor mental health.

    • Disconnection from self and others.

    • Limited emotional range.

    • Increased aggressive and violent behaviours.

  • Takes a strengths-based approach to develop improved self-awareness and increased emotional literacy and capacity.

  • The aims of this workshop are to understand how to improve mental health and wellbeing by establishing a deeper connection with your authentic self, which will in turn allow for deeper connection with others.

Boundaries, Power Dynamics, Consent

  • The foundation of this workshop is understanding how to set, communicate, and maintain boundaries.

  • Respecting boundaries is essential to fostering healthy personal and professional relationships of all kinds.

  • We will focus on how navigating boundaries is most relevant to you, which could include:

    • How to navigate power dynamics, particularly as they relate to your organization and industry.

    • Consent and building a culture of consent, as part of a broader discussion of preventing gender-based violence.

How to have Difficult Conversations

  • The focus of this workshop is learning how to embrace and sit with discomfort, and to have nuanced discussions that go beyond the surface level to a place where they are deep and meaningful.

  • We will explore how to move past our defences that cause us to shut ourselves off from deeper connection, and to stay open and reflective.

  • Intended to serve as a prelude to more in-depth conversations on uncomfortable topics, including those related to Anti-Oppression work.

  • Having authentic, meaningful conversations on these topics will bring up deep and uncomfortable feelings, which we are often conditioned to avoid. But embracing these feelings is essential to this work, because if these conversations are not making you uncomfortable, then they are surface level, performative conversations.

  • This workshop will prepare you and your organization to undertake meaningful self-examination, and the deeper work that follows.

Custom Workshop

  • Customized and flexible workshops on other topics related to mental health & wellbeing are also available.

  • These workshops are adaptive and fully responsive to your needs and what YOU want to talk about.

  • If you are interested in a topic that you don’t see listed here and you think that Connection Workshops would be a good fit for your needs, get in touch and we can discuss further!
